The Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, commonly referred to as PEI, holds significant appeal for potential immigrants. Despite being the smallest province by area, it ranks among the largest in terms of natural beauty, historical significance, and Canadian culture. Prince Edward Island is one of the four Atlantic provinces in Canada and is recognized as one of the smallest provinces in the country. This province provides exciting career prospects and fosters a progressive and supportive environment for entrepreneurs. It proudly showcases its vibrant communities and rich cultural heritage. With a harmonious blend of natural landscapes, PEI stands out as the top choice for any immigrant.

What is the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program?

The PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is an exceptional initiative aimed at attracting skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates to establish their lives in Prince Edward Island. The PEI PNP offers various streams for candidates whose qualifications meet the demands of the Canadian job market.

The Prince Edward Island PNP consists of two streams:

  • Labour Impact Category
  • Business Impact Category

Labour Impact Category

The Labour Impact Category of the Prince Edward Island Nominee Program (PEINP) is categorized into three distinct streams:

    • PEI Skilled Worker Stream
    • PEI Critical Worker Stream
    • PEI International Graduate Stream

PEI Skilled Worker Stream

Employers in Prince Edward Island who have recognized or employed a foreign worker can assist that worker in obtaining permanent residency in Canada via the PEI PNP Skilled Worker Stream. Potential nominees who have the requisite skills and fall within the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels O, A, or B are eligible, provided they possess a post-secondary degree or diploma along with relevant experience in their intended profession. Additionally, specific criteria must be met to qualify for nomination under this program.

PEI Critical Worker Stream

Employers in Prince Edward Island who have engaged a foreign worker can support that worker in acquiring permanent residency in Canada through the PEI PNP Critical Worker Stream. The PEI PNP aims to address labor market shortages by allowing international applicants to apply for PR. The job offer must correspond to a classification under the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

International Graduate Stream

The International Graduate Stream is driven by employers and offers an opportunity for employers in Prince Edward Island to recruit recent graduates from recognized and accredited universities or colleges in the province.

The international graduate must possess a full-time job offer in their field of study that aligns with the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, or B, which encompass professional, managerial, and skilled trade roles.

Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream

This stream enables self-employed individuals to establish their farms if they possess adequate funds for their development.

  • You must demonstrate that you have farm management skills evidenced by:
  • Financial documentation of your current farm business
  • Documentation of your education, training, and work experience
  • Proof that a Canadian financial institution is prepared to finance your proposed farming business.
  • You must have sufficient financial resources to create a sustainable farming operation.
  • You must be capable of investing a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta.
  • Applications that present the best opportunity for growth in Alberta’s agri-food sector will be prioritized.

Business Impact Category

The PNP PEI business impact category is designated for individuals intending to invest in and actively oversee a business in Prince Edward Island. This category encompasses three PEI immigration streams:

100% Ownership Stream

As indicated by its name, this immigration pathway to Prince Edward Island is intended for foreign nationals who will take complete ownership of a local business. This may involve either establishing a new business or acquiring an existing PEI business in its entirety.

Partial Ownership Stream

Rather than owning the whole business, this PEI immigration stream is aimed at foreign nationals who will acquire a portion of a local business. The individual is required to either purchase a minimum of one-third of the business or make a minimum equity investment of at least CAD $1,000,000 in the company.

Work Permit Stream

This immigration stream provides foreign nationals with a work permit, allowing them to move to PEI and work in the business they want to invest in. This option is beneficial for individuals who wish to familiarize themselves with the daily operations of the business before making a financial investment. Otherwise, the work permit stream shares the same criteria as the partial ownership stream.
