Canada Express Entry
Express Entry was introduced in 2015 as a way to streamline the immigration process and make it more efficient. Under the Express Entry system, applicants create an online profile and are assessed based on a points system that takes into account factors such as their age, education, work experience, language skills, and Canadian experience. Applicants with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence.
The Express Entry system has been very successful in attracting skilled workers to Canada. In 2021, over 200,000 people were invited to apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system
How to apply for Express Entry?
It takes two steps to apply for Express Entry. The first step is to submit your profile, which will need you to upload the following documents:
- The results of the language tests
- Report on Educational Credential Evaluation
- A passport or any other kind of identification for travel
- Work Experience
Following the submission of your profile and receipt of an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residency, you will be required to submit a more extensive application. It would comprise letters of recommendation, additional identification documents, police clearance certificates, and the findings of a medical assessment.
Who is eligible for Express Entry?
Candidates for Express Entry must have a university or college degree, relevant work experience, and a good knowledge of English and/or French. Candidates must fulfill the eligibility conditions for one of three government programs to use the Express Entry system:
The quickest approach to determine your eligibility is to utilize an online evaluation tool. We will link one for you to use. Evaluation Tool link.
Requirements for Express Entry
To be eligible for Express Entry as a skilled worker, you must meet the following requirements:
In the last 10 years, you must have had at least one year of continuous full-time (or similar part-time) work experience in a skilled occupation.
- You must be able to demonstrate a minimum of seven Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) points in either English or French on an authorized language exam
- Post-secondary education that has been evaluated against Canadian criteria using an Education Credential Assessment
These are the minimal qualifications for applying as a skilled worker to Canada’s Express Entry system. Meeting these requirements does not ensure that you will be asked to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Candidates with stronger profiles will always be preferred above those who merely meet the minimum standards.
Cost of Obtaining an Express Entry

Is a job offer necessary for Express Entry?
Express Entry does not require a job offer. The vast majority of Express Entry candidates do not have a formal job offer from Canada.
If you have a genuine Canadian employment offer, you can increase your CRS score by up to 200 points.
How long does Express Entry take?
The Express Entry process can take as short as six months from the time the Express Entry profile is submitted until a permanent residence visa is granted. Not all situations, though, will keep happening at this rate. If you do not get an invitation to apply, your Express Entry profile will remain active in the applicant pool for 12 months. After a year, if you still haven’t received an invitation, you can resubmit your profile and continue to be considered. To elaborate, consider the following:
- Your profile will be active in the Express Entry pool for 12 months.
- From the time the ITA is issued, you will have 60 days to deliver the necessary full application of paperwork.
- The IRCC may complete your case in around six months from the time they receive your complete application.
