Canadian Sponsoring Family: Open work permit is now also available for overseas applications
Now Open work permit is for everyone even the outlanders (people residing outside Canada). Reuniting families is one of the important parts and strategies of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The core motive behind this is to unite more families and aid them to be together.
Partners, Spouses, and dependents of permanent residents, temporary workers, Citizens of Canada, and students who are already in Canada are now eligible for an Open Work Permit.
Common-law partners, spouses, conjugal partners, and dependent children who are over 18 years old are family members.
IRCC aims to process every spousal sponsorship application within 12 months.
Eligibility for an open work permit
- Under IRCC, family members who have valid temporary residency status, have maintained their status, or are eligible and have applied to restore their status, and who share the same residential address residing with their sponsor in Canada when applying for an open work permit, may be eligible for an open work permit.
- IRCC public policy stipulates that officials may issue open work permits to foreign nationals who meet any of the following conditions:
A person is Foreigners if :
- The main applicant has applied for permanent residence under an umbrella or common-law partner in Canada or as a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner in an IRCC-approved family group to handle
- Have applied for a work permit, when the term of the requested work permit is a maximum of two years
- Be the subject of a sponsorship application filed by a spouse, common-law partner, or common-law partner who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Be at the same residence address as their sponsor in Canada at the time of application, and
- Have valid temporary resident status in Canada or are eligible and have applied for reinstatement of status
Canada’s ongoing commitment to family reunification
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced this measure on May 26.
The introduction of open work permits for sponsoring spouses abroad has been accompanied by other family reunification measures such as:
- Faster Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) processing times for joint applicants
- New processing tools exclusively for TRV subscribers who are spouses
- Extension of open work permits for holders of open work permits expiring from August 1 to the end of 2023
Fraser said IRCC is committed to reuniting families faster and allowing them to work and support themselves faster while they are here. By doing so, he said, Canada is helping beginners realize their true eventuality while strengthening Canada’s frugality and social fabric.
