UAE to Canada: Finding Popular Ways for Immigration

According to the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada aims to welcome more than 465,000 new permanent residents by the end of 2023. The aim for 2025 is to welcome 500,000 newcomers to Canada.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a famous option for people from the UAE. FWSP prefers applicants with work experience and no connection to Canada or no job offer for permanent residence.

FSWP is a program managed by Express Entry, the Canadian federal government’s application system. That manages the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the FWSP, the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

The UAE has one of the highest numbers of new immigrants to Canada, which is one of the reasons why most of the residents of the UAE come to Canada in the economic category as skilled workers.

To be eligible for the program, candidates need to meet the following criteria:

Once you determine your eligibility for the FSWP, you can apply by making an Express Entry profile on the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. After making the profile, you will receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on human capital factors such as education, age, work experience, language ability, etc.

Category-based Express Entry draws

Category-based Express Entry draws were recently launched by the IRCC. This program chooses nominees if they have strong French language proficiency or have work experience in the following professions:

The Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is another great option for UAE immigration candidates.

Canada has ten provinces and three territories, and most of them have their own PNP (except Quebec and Nunavut). Via PNP, every province and territory gets to design its immigration pathways based on its economic, job market, and demographic needs.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows provinces and territories to nominate skilled workers for immigration based on their eligibility criteria.

Individuals may qualify for the Express Entry pool and receive a nomination from a province through the PNP program. The province will select nominees from the federal collection. If a candidate is nominated through Express Entry, they will receive an additional 600 CRS points, effectively ensuring an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

Work permits

Individuals living in the UAE come to Canada to work by getting a Canadian work permit, which is divided into two main programs: the International Mobility Program (IMP) and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The main distinction between the two is that TFWP requires a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) while IMP is not compulsory.

The purpose of LMIA is to prove that hiring a foreign worker will either have a positive or neutral effect on the Canadian job market.

The purpose of the IMP is to support Canada’s economic and social policy goals, and as such, it does not mandate an LMIA. Within the IMP framework, there are programs like the Intra-Company Transfer, which permits key personnel of a company to relocate from a branch to Canada. Additionally, the Significant Benefit stream grants work permits to foreign nationals whose work is significant and notable, offering a benefit to Canada.

Typically, individuals require a job offer from a Canadian employer to apply for a work permit. However, Certain circumstances may grant an open work permit. It is not restricted to a specific employer and enables the person to work in various locations throughout Canada.

Study permits

Factors such as high-quality education, affordability, and post-graduation benefits make Canada a top destination for international students.

International students who complete their post-secondary education in Canada can greatly benefit from the opportunity to transition to permanent residency. Federal and provincial immigration programs highly value Canadian education and work experience, making it easier for students to pursue permanent residency in Canada.

After completing your studies in Canada, you may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Depending on your academic program, this permit can allow you to work in Canada for up to three years.
